We, the undersigned, Active Members of Unity Chicago (UC), in reference to the below information and citations of Illinois Law, hereby DEMAND,

Connie Catellani and Joe Zefran be immediately restored to their Trustee positions to complete their two (2) year terms, to which each was duly elected by the Active Members present at the 2021 Unity Chicago Annual Meeting of the Membership on January 9, 2022; and

By doing so, restore "Unity In Chicago" (Illinois corporation file number 51454227), a.k.a. Unity Chicago, to full compliance with the laws of the State of Illinois, specifically, Illinois law 805 ILCS 105/ General Not for Profit Corporation Act of 1986, governing all not-for-profit organizations.

Current Unity Chicago Bylaws– amended and accepted at the Annual Meeting of the Membership held on November 13, 2016 – states;

ARTICLE III - Office, Records and Laws, Section 3: Legal Adherence: Unity In Chicago shall observe all local, state and federal laws which apply to a non-profit corporation as defined in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended from time to time.

Being that, the corporation Unity in Chicago is registered at 5959 N Sheridan Rd, in the City of Chicago, in the County of Cook, in the State of Illinois, UC is therefore subject to the laws of the State of Illinois, and specifically to the Illinois law 805 ILCS 105/ General Not for Profit Corporation Act of 1986,

In addition to ignoring Illinois Law, the below-described actions by five (5) Board Trustees and the Sr. Minister of Unity Chicago have,

  1. Violated the rights of the Active Members,
  2. Damaged the reputation of Unity Chicago,
  3. Devalued the Unity Principles on which our community is founded.
With pre-determined intention, the President of Unity Chicago's Board of Trustees called an 'Executive Session' meeting, 'attendance mandatory on September 6, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. While the purpose of the meeting was known to five (5) Trustees and the Sr. Minister, two (2) Trustees, Connie Catellani and Joe Zefran, were not informed of any reason(s) for the meeting. A request for information received the response from the President that the subject matter would be revealed at the meeting'. The objective was to force a resignation from the Board or

if needed vote to expel them from their positions as Trustees.

Illinois law 805 ILCS 105/ General Not for Profit Corporation Act of 1986, addresses removal of Board members as such;

805 ILCS 105/ARTICLE 8. DIRECTORS AND OFFICE, Sec.108.35. Removal of Directors. Paragraph (c): In the case of a corporation with members entitled to vote for directors, no director may be removed, except as follows: - (4) If a director is elected by a class of voting members entitled to vote, directors or other electors, that director may be removed only by the same class of members entitled to vote, directors or electors which elected the director.

ONLY UNITY CHICAGO ACTIVE MEMBERS CAN

VOTE TO REMOVE TRUSTEES FROM ITS BOARD

The five (5) Board Trustees and Sr. Minister have caused Unity Chicago to commit a Class C Misdemeanor by removing two (2) Trustees, without a meeting and vote of the Active Members. 805 ILCS 105/ARTICLE 16. PENALTIES Sec.116.05. Paragraph (d) Item(2) (d) Each corporation, domestic or foreign, that fails or refuses, (2) to perform any other act required by this Act to be performed by the corporation, is guilty of a Class C misdemeanor.

Restore Connie Catellani and Joe Zefran to the Board

and truly begin to Heal our Unity Chicago Community!
