We have received notification from Cardiff Council that they propose to turn the entirety of Matthew Walk fields in to a ’one cut grassland area’. This means that they will allow the grass to grow into a meadow to promote conservation and biodiversity.
This also means that local families will no longer be able to play football, have outdoor picnics or social gatherings in this much needed recreational space.
This field is essential to the community in Danescourt and gives children the freedom to play ball games away from the tarmac streets and in a safe environment.
Also many dog walkers use this field to exercise their dogs. Long unkept grass will make it more difficult for owners to locate and pick up dog mess.
This petition is to ask Cardiff Council to fulfil it’s duty to maintain the field so that this integral community space can continue to be enjoyed by residents living in Danescourt and surrounding areas.

A much needed space for community users that would be ruined sadly. There are other areas around Danescourt that can become one-mow areas, like grass verges, the area by the shops, by the top roundabout, etc
This field was my life and some for the best part of 16 years while growing up. Without it, I would have been led to anti-social behaviour. Many great memories of Danescourt 99.99% of them were on this field!
This field is the hub of Danescourt for kids to play, families to picnic and dog walkers to give their pets a good run around. Many of the surrounding flats/ houses have small/no garden and this field is used by so many.
This is what section 106 contributions for park’s maintenance is for! You already have sections of most parks which are left I mowed to enhance & promote biodiversity enhancement. It doesn’t take much to mow this area of grassland!
My kids love playing on the field with their friends after school, they have had parties on it, played games on it, flown kites on it, where else can young kids from the area do this within walking distance safely? CCC have given no thought about locals residents what so ever.
Our children are the men and women of tomorrow and need the space to be as free as the wild flower...give them the chance to grow into happy, strong, healthy individuals. They need that as much the need the space Cardiff City Council need to build house.
This area has been used as a play area and usable green space for almost fifty years. It needs to be maintained to enable local people to enjoy their recreation in safety away from traffic.

This area is so well used with children running, playing football etc. In a time when there us a concern that children are overweight and do not take enough exercise it seems ridiculous not to maintain a safe, overlooked, public open space.
