We affirm that every person who is eligible for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) should receive program support in a timely manner. Currently, up to 50% of applicants are refused support, while approximately 50% of appeals are granted. This is not in the best interest of applicants or of the Ontario Government, which has to spend considerable money on the appeal process. In addition, the time limit of 90 days from receipt of the forms to their due date makes completion of the application difficult for many applicants, whose disabilities may complicate the process. Nearly double the number of appeals are granted when applicants have assistance and representation throughout the appeal process. Thus, a more accessible process and increased support are both necessary! Therefore, to facilitate the application process for all eligible people with disabilities, we request that the ODSP application forms be made available online. This would enable all interested Ontarians, including applicants and people who might provide assistance to applicants, the opportunity to better understand the application process. Further, we request that the 90 day deadline be eliminated in the application process, as it restricts application by eligible candidates for the ODSP program.
