Make the Hyundai KONA electric a safer car by changing the action to "Driver's hands not detected"
The new Hyundai KONA electric, which is a fantastic car, has one safety flaw that I wish could be changed. Driving in Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and refusing to put your hand on the steering wheel - even after numerous warnings, the car simply disables the Lane Following Assist (LFA) but continues in the same speed!
This is dangerous. If the driver becomes indisposed/unconscious after activating SCC, the risk is that car will not stop until it crashes.
It would be much better solution to turn OFF the speed control, activate the Hazard Warning Flasher but keep the LFA active until the car stops if the car is not capable of detecting the driver's hand.
This should be a simple software change for Hyundai.
Let us see if we can get this changed.

Reaching this level of support has been a long haul and I am exhausted but encouraged to see so many people agree that this safety change is necessary. It feels like we are finally gaining enough traction to make someone at the company sit up and notice. We have a long road ahead to get this software update implemented but I am not walking away now.

why would they design it this way?? seems like a huge liability
this is a massive safety gap. hyundai needs to update this asap
Just bought one and realized this. hope they push an update out soon.
come on hyundai just patch it. too easy to fall asleep at the wheel and keep cruise going
My kona keeps doing this, honestly makes me nervous to use the cruise control honestly.
