Since the introduction of Traffic Lights on the A19
Roundabout at Peterlee, motorists and residents in the area are becoming
increasingly frustrated, particularly at 'off-peak' times because......
1. Motorists are using residential streets to avoid the
roundabout and residents have seen volumes of traffic increase significantly on
the streets where they live (and children play).
2. Some motorists are either 'jumping the lights' or
speeding around the roundabout to avoid getting stopped up to 3 times while on
it.
3. Road signage leading to the roundabout from the A19 does
not make it clear that motorists can and should use both lanes; at peak times
traffic backs up onto the A19 because of this.
Other roundabouts in the area which support much higher
volumes of traffic are part-time eg.
A19 at A690 (Durham to Sunderland main road linking to A1M)
A19 at A183 (Chester le Street to Sunderland main road
linking to A1M)
A1231 to Washington Highway - Nissan and A1 link traffic
users.
The people signing this petition would like to have the
signage on entering the slip road from the A19 make it clear that BOTH LANES
can be used and; the signals are changed to PART-TIME status.
There will be an accident shortly there are so many people who do not have a clue how to us that roundabout
