The board has officially rescinded the health care benefits for part-time trustees. This outcome confirms that public policy must align with the expectations of the taxpayers. I am grateful to the 179 people who lent their support to this effort to restore fiscal responsibility to our township.

On February 12th, 2014 The Macomb Township Board of Trustees approved the resolution titled:

RESOLUTION AMENDING ESTABLISHING SALARY, BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION FOR TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR, CLERK, TREASURER TRUSTEES, SPECIFIED EMPLOYEES AND APPOINTED MEMBERS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS.

The motion to approve this resolution was made by Trustee Cliff Freitas and seconded by Trustees Nancy Nevers (Who as a result of the vote now both receive health care benefits not previously offered to part-time trustees) The vote was approved 7-0.

This vote created health care and retirement benefits that were not offered to Macomb Township trustees in the past, and shockingly, these are lifetime benefits, which also apply to spouses, and precludes any newly elected officials from receiving these newly created benefits.

This vote was featured in an article in the Macomb Township Chronicle.

These health benefits are the Cadillac of plans ($26,000 for family $12,000 for individual) are out of the norm for part time Trustees who are only required to attend two short meetings a month once elected.

Please sign the petition to send the board a message that the hard working, taxpaying residents are not happy with these highly out of the norm benefits.

Not only did some of the Board members receive these benefits, when they cancel their benefits at work, they get a check back! So they are MAKING money off of Macomb Township!!

I don't get any benifits after i retire and i am a professional. These people want to live off of us taxpayers forever on some loophole they voted in for themselves for a few years of part time service.

Unbelievable! How are people so selfish. Political positions I thought were to represent the people not for financial gain. How can it be legal for the board to vote for something pretaining to them.

I worked 180 days for 33 years to get my benefits and paid 4% of my salary in addition to what was set aside by my employer. This should not have happened.

I am a Macomb township resident. "The money should go to public safety and getting sidewalks completed on all main road before another person gets killed like that teen girl walking to school 2 years ago because of no sidewalks.

We the tax payers do not feel it's our responsibility to pay for your health care. We pay out of pocket for our own health care. You work Part Time, you pass ordinances and rezoning requests for your fellow board members "under the radar" (25 mile and Luchtman condos!!) Unbeknownst to the residents. therefore giving each other special treatment. That money can be used within the twp to implement programs for our residents of Macomb. No more dirty politics...keep it all transparent! Pay for your own health care board members!
