HB-587 is currently pending in the Georgia legislature. The bill seeks to allow the citizens of south Cobb County to vote on incorporating a new city to be known as Mableton. The proposed limits generally are bound by Hurt Road on the north, City of Smyrna on the east, City of Austell / Powder Springs Road on the west and the county lines on the southeast and southwest. I am a new physician who just bought my first house in mableton. I want nothing more but to see Mableton flourish. I would consider running for a leadership position.
It makes more sense to allow Smyrna to annex further south. The GA legislature blocked a new city's ability to run its own school district (which is what Mableton needs most IMO). If no police or fire is provided then what is the point? I am fine with having my trash picked up by a private company.
We need this to block the proposed Smyrna annex. Smyrna only wants to annex the high dollar properties on Cooper Lake - leaving the rest of Mableton as the armpit of Cobb County. Either they annex it all or Mableton should have that high tax base...not Smyrna. It is time Mableton becomes more than just an afterthought.
After reading UGA's feasibility study I am in favor of Mableton becoming a city. I would encourage anyone opposed to the idea to read the same study. I do not want us to be sucked up by Smyrna.
Let the people vote on what will be happening to their community. It impacts their pockets and home life instead of the officials pockets!
I was never formally notified that I my house is now apart of the city of Mableton even though my address is Austell. I did not vote for this and I know it's going to be all about money! I also heard that know the Cobb County police department and city of Mableton can't come to an agreement! This is crazy!!! Mableton was just fine under Cobb County and I vote for the city of Mableton to be removed and we go back to Cobb County!
My family & I were never told about the redrawing of the map until AFTER the Election in November 2022. There were no emails, phone calls, texts, nothing letting us know our area was now in the proposed limits. The wording on the ballot was vague. A lot of people I have heard from just though, "Mableton is already it's own little area, so let they can become a city if they want". We weren't aware the lines had been COMPLETELY redrawn. I had to find out from people that aren't even in the proposed area!

Absolutely no benefit. HIGHER TAXES. Mableton has worked well for the last 50 years. It is hard enough for older people to pay their taxes now. What do you think will happen if this happens. VOTE NO
