Tell your elected officials that we want rent stabilization!

Signing this petition means that you support the passage of Massachusetts Bill H. 1378: An Act to Enable Local Options for Tenant Protections

This bill would make it legal for towns and city to put in place rent stabilization laws. It would not mandate rent control all over the state. Each town would decide if rent control is wanted and how much rent could be raised by each year.

Rent stabilization will help decrease the chances of eviction. Massachusetts is one of the most expensive states to live in. 3 of the 5 most expensive states have rent control. Our landlords don't have to worry about this and can raise the rent at the end of your lease as much as they want. The amount the rent has been going up in recent years is alarming. If you can't afford the annual jump in rent, then there's a possibility of homelessness.

This petition was made by 8th grade students at Great Falls Middle School in Montague, Massachusetts. This is part of our Generation Citizen project for civics class. Our goal is to combat homelessness and we feel strongly that this bill is a step in the right direction.
