As parents, caretakers, community members, and family members of students in Lago Vista ISD, we are concerned about the COVID-19 safety protocols in place within the district. We request an emergency public meeting of the Board of Trustees before August 20th, 2021, to discuss how the district may implement Travis County's mask mandate for public schools.
If the district is choosing not to follow the mask mandate, we believe LVISD parents have the right to know the reasoning. While we understand that the legal situation surrounding mask mandates in Texas ISDs is still in flux, we know that the U.S. Department of Education has said they will provide funding directly to districts who implement universal masking, even if GA-28 stands. Many districts in Texas are enforcing universal mask-wearing in spite of the governor's order. Why would masks not be enforced in Lago Vista?
Additionally, we ask the Board to use this meeting to answer questions from parents and caretakers regarding the District's COVID protocols. At this time, parents have had to individually contact administrators to get their questions answered. This piecemeal method of sharing information has caused confusion and damaged our confidence in the district’s commitment to provide a safe and equitable learning environment for our children. We would appreciate clarity.
Again, we ask that the Board schedule an emergency public meeting via Zoom by the end of the next week, August 20th, 2021. We would like answers to our questions so that we may restore our confidence in district leadership. We look forward to your response.

Transparency is all we are asking for. Why is clear communication so difficult for this board?
My kid has asthma and I am terrified to send them back without any protection. Please listen to us.
JUST MASK UP. It is not that hard and it keeps the schools open. stop playing politics with our kids health.
We need this meeting asap. August 20th is right around the corner and we still have no idea what the plan is.
Why are other districts doing it but not us? makes no sense.
