We , the undersigned, call upon Sefton Council to make Lulworth Road a safer place to cross by all measures necessary including the installation of a pedestrian crossing.

Updates

January 28, 2022

I really never pictured this many people agreeing that Lulworth Road needs to be safer. It is honestly humbling to see that this concern is shared by so many neighbors who just want to move through their own streets without worry. You all are the momentum behind this push.

Lulworth Road is a particular busy route for all types of vehicles in and out of Southport town centre especially when the coastal road is closed. Birkdale is predominately an elderly population and consequently crossing a main road can be problematic.

I think the worst hazard on Lulworth road is the junction with Aughton road. As the left turn from Lord street west is a curved kerb, traffic doesn't need or take steps to slow down, so I find it very unsafe to cross and made worse by so many not even indicating their intention to make a left turn.

I cross this road twice a day from Saxon Road to St James church, with my dogs one which is old and slow. I would say the average speed both ways is 40mph, but a lot drive about 50mph. Only last week crossing the road at night I have to make sure there is no traffic either way, Road was clear but as I got to the middle of the road a car came speeding towards me , it was doing at least 60mph, it was going so fast that I didn’t hear it till it was on top of me. Lulworth Road/ Waterloo Road is a long road cars regularly speed. We need speed cameras along the route.

Placing pedestrian crossings at roundabout at end of Lord St., across end of Aughton Rd and along Lulworth Rd near to Gloucester Rd. These crossing will have the effect of slowing local traffic and regular users, as the drivers will be on the look our for pedestrians.

The junction at Aughton Road is so wide that vehicles turning left from Lulworth Road into Aughton Road do not even have to slow down.
