LTC extended hours
As fourth year nursing students we have taken on the challenge of implementing change within the London Transit Commission (LTC). Currently LTC is unavailable to residents between midnight and 6am, limiting public transportation during these hours. London police noted in 2007 that most impaired driving charges in London and surrounding area occurred on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Most of the arrests are between midnight and 6am. These statistics indicate that there is a need to promote safe driving, as well as, a need for more services that will discourage impaired driving. We propose that LTC extend the hours of operation of bus routes number 6 Richmond, 4 Oxford East, 17 Oxford West and 2 Dundas to address the health and safety concerns of the community. The 6 Richmond goes to Western University and all hospitals excluding South Street. The 17 Oxford West goes to the western end of London. The 4 Oxford East goes to Fanshawe College and White Oaks Mall. The 2 Dundas goes to Western University and east to Argyle Mall. By extending the selected route hours we would be improving our communitys public transportation system. Furthermore, by implementing this change there will be a decrease in cars on the streets, pollution and public disturbance in the late night hours by providing individuals with an affordable, convenient safe ride home. Our goal is to gain your support in order to make a difference. There is now an online petition for you to sign (if you wish) to advocate for LTC to implement change.
