We the undersigned residents of the Centre Hills Village neighborhood hereby request that College Township Council authorize and undertake a study of traffic safety along both Oak Ridge and Shamrock Avenues. These residential streets have long been a cut-through from East College Ave. to South Atherton but the recent relocation of Giant and opening of other businesses has resulted in a significant increase in both volume and average speed of traffic. If warranted after study and review, we respectfully request that College Township Council, staff, and committees formulate and present potential mitigation or remedies through the LTAC (Local Traffic Advisory Committee) process.

Updates

College Township Council is still pretending our streets are safe while cars fly down Oak Ridge like it is a highway. I have been documenting the near misses daily and the sheer negligence from our local officials is staggering. We are not going to be ignored while they prioritize retail convenience over the safety of our neighborhood.

I live on Shamrock. I see high speed car travel every day, particularly by delivery trucks but also those cutting through from College Av to Atherton. Mitigation should include speed bumps on both Oakridge and Shamrock, and perhaps on Squirrel Drive.

Aside from the speeding (I see them on Shamrock and hear them on Oak Ridge) the stop sign at Oak Ridge and Squirrel is completely out of control! I was almost hit 2 times last week by people as I was coming up Squirrel. They don't stop!!!

Many children live in this neighborhood, and people who use these streets as a cut through often drive dangerously and recklessly. Unless something changes, it's an accident waiting to happen involving small children and reckless drivers.

We don't feel so safe when walking along the Oak Ridge. Many drivers ignore the speed limit and the STOP sign. A lot of children live in the community, and we pray a safer enviornment here. We hope it's more used by local residents. Local residents generally care more about the neighborhood safety and have more respect about the traffic rules. Besides the efforts to be agreed and taken from local authorties, I wish we could get GPS apps such as Google Map could change their configuration. I think it's a better solution to use E College then University Drive to go to some places on S Atherton, while GPS always direct the traffic via Squirrel, Oak Ridge and E Branch, even from E College to places on University Drive such as YMCA, the current GPS direction is shorter but winding and it doesn't save time in reality, in contract, E College and University Drive are designed for higher speed and heavier traffic. I hope we'll reduce some traffic by doing so.

My family and I also echo the comments about the stop sign at Squirrel and Oakridge. In short, it is very dangerous. We have almost got hit multiple times in the past several years. People just do not stop at the sign!

The use of Oakridge and to a lesser extent shamrock as a cut though between E College and S Atherton creates several dangerous traffic spots as well a putting pedestrians, bicyclists and playing children. When was the last time you saw kids playing in the yards on Oak Ridge like you do on Shamrock and Cottonwood?

I echo the comments about the stop sign at Squirrel and Oakridge. My family prays on the way up Squirrel that we don't get hit. We've had many close calls over the years. The volume of cars on both Oakridge and Shamrock have increased throughout the years, along with a disregard for the speed limit throughout the neighborhood.

Over the past year I have seen an increase in the number of people neglecting to stop at the stop sign at the corner of Oak Ridge and Squirrel. I have almost been run off the road a few times and had to break and blow horn several times. My worry is that someone coming up Squirrel from College Ave. is going to get T-Boned from a person running the STOP sign. In fact last week, I was coming up the hill and someone ran the stop sign at a high rate of speed and pulled into a driveaway on dead end section of Oak Ridge. Something certainly needs to be done before someone gets injured or even killed.
