Drive in any major Texas city during morning or afternoon rush hour and you know the situation. Our highways are like parking lots. When it comes to roads, drivers need a choice to get them out of congestion and gridlock. The Texas Department of Transportation and local officials have a solution to get roads built quicker: Texas Tollways, a modern network of toll roads and express toll lanes that can reduce traffic jams and get Texans moving.
On it's face this is an excellent goal, the issue here is not about the toll itself, it is about the fair and equitable contribution made by drivers of vehicles. Currently in Houston a driver in a four wheel vehicle pays $1.75 per toll, while a charge for each additional axle pays $1.75 more per axle. Since the larger the vehicle the higher the cost, the reverse should also take effect. A two wheeled vehicle like a motorcycle should pay half of what a car pays.
There are a multitude of reasons for this, with the three following at the top of the list: 1-Motorcycles use less gas and reduces dependence on foreign oil 2-Motorcycles take up less space 3-Motorcycles do less damage to roadways By signing this petition you are agreeing that the cost of tolls for motorcycles should be reduced. As an avid rider, I think this would inspire more motorcyclist to utilize the tolls. So instead of getting $100 from one pocket, you'd get $50 from 20 pockets. In the long run too, while generating more revenue, would spend less on repair work.
This petition seems fair. Many other states and countries charge less for motorcycles on toll roads.
Equivalent use; equivalent toll. If six wheels is worth twice as much as four; two wheels is worth half as much as four. My commute today costs $9.50 a day in tolls and $5 a day in fuel- and only half of the 30 miles is tolled!
I do have to wonder about the service comment. If the issue is service not wear and tear than you could argue that 18 wheelers should be priced the same as autos. It is the same service they receive. I would think the biggest issue with service are the people that don't have ez tags and sit in the line to pay. More eztags less service personal. It is not complicated.
Motorcycles are the lowest impact vehicles on the road, and should be charge less. I would use the toll way to commute (Clear Lake to Jersey Village) if this were to take effect.
This should be common sense

Motorcycles have less impact on traffic, not to mention wear/tear on roadways. Toll roads are most often associated with traffic reduction, so it seems only appropriate to charge motorcycles as a smaller class of vehicle than automobiles.
