To: City of Edmonton
We, the undersigned, are concerned about the environmental impact of gas operated vehicles and wish to encourage the use of motorcycles and scooters by people who wish to use them. We also want to reduce congestion in the city, increase available parking spaces for all vehicles, reduce roadway wear and tear, and improve the ambience and life of our city.
To this end, we request the City of Edmonton actively encourage the use of motorcycles and scooters in the city. An overall vision should be developed, however specific actions we request are:
1. Increase the allocation of both on and off-street parking spaces for motorcycles downtown to at least five percent of what is currently available for cars.
2. Permit motorcycle parking on sidewalks in designated places where such parking does not cause hazard or obstruction.
3. Provide off-street designated motorcycle parking with a reduced charge to commensurate with the space occupied by motorcycles. (i.e. at most 20% of car charges)
4. Corner spaces, bollards or around structural supports where cars can not fit should be free for motorcycles and scooters.
These steps will reduce traffic congestion, and parking contention for motorcycles.
Motorcycle and scooter use is skyrocketing as people seek both planetary benefits and personal savings. Public transport, walking, bicycling and motorcycles all have a role in reducing our environmental impact.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
I have been in contact with members of the city planning department to discuss the current lack of efficient parking for smaller vehicles. Several officials have acknowledged the potential for better space utilization in our downtown core. Further progress depends on keeping this issue visible to the council.

The level of engagement for this proposal has grown significantly beyond my initial expectations. It is clear that many residents find the current parking infrastructure for motorcycles and scooters insufficient for modern urban needs. I appreciate the time each person has spent engaging with these ideas.

Finally. Trying to fit a bike into a full size stall is a joke and feels like a waste for everyone.

WAY OVERDUE. Why am I paying the same rate as a huge truck when I take up a quarter of the space?

Downtown parking is a nightmare. This would help so much with traffic flow and making better use of the weird dead spaces on the corners.
