Louisville Metro Government- Start Redeveloping City-Owned Surface Parking Lots

We, the citizens of Louisville, KY, petition Metro to start redeveloping city-owned surface parking lots for housing, retail, offices, parks, community gardens, solar farms or parking garages. Metro's excessive surface parking devours spaces that should have greener, more sustainable uses. They intensify the high heat index in summer, are excessively cold and hazardous in winter, increase flooding, diminish walkability and suppress public transit alternatives or use.
The minimal revenue they generate does not offset their enormous, negative environmental impact.
Please set a new standard in environmental responsibility. Reverse the negative effects of surface lots on our quality of life in Louisville by re-purposing them!

It's time we rethink our land use in downtown Louisville. Do we want more parking lots and more urban heat, or do we want "cool town" to be a little cooler?
We need fewer parking lots and more public transit infrastructure.
Reducing the heat effect should be a priority for our city!
such promise here, a restorative approach to how cities function for people and how and why they are formed in the first place should be our goal. Buildings, streetscapes, urban tree canopy should all be at their highest function and most inviting. Let's show the world how a city block should really Look and Feel.

With the Downtown of Louisville wiped out in a wasteland of parking and vacant lots and blocks fenced in with parking meters, I STILL GOT A $50 PARKING TICKET! My sorry experience is not an enticement to frequently return to Downtown. Building something useful and worthwhile in those spaces. Start planning and redeveloping to serve the needs and environmental realities of Downtown. Re: see proven suggestions with petition.
