The use of deafening air brakes by trucks along Lorimer Street Docklands, directly adjacent to residential dwellings has become completely unacceptable.

Signs have been installed along main roads throughout many other areas of Melbourne to advise truck drivers not to use noisy engine brakes in areas adjacent to homes. In fact, such signs have been installed in the nearby Ingles Street and Pickles Street in Port Melbourne.

However, while the development of the Yarra’s Edge residential area has progressed along Lorimer Street, it seems that authorities have neglected to ensure the residential area is not affected by unnecessary, deafening air brakes.

This area of Melbourne should never have been developed into a residential area if authorities were not willing to stop trucks using air brakes in the area.

So please sign this petition for the installation of signs along Lorimer Street near the Yarra’s Edge development for truck drivers not to use engine brakes in this area.

Please also spread this message to others.

Multiple people within the same household can sign this petition individually, and even children can sign this petition. The more people that sign this petition the better.

December 14, 2020

I was standing on the corner of Lorimer Street last night and the noise was just absolutely unbearable like it is every single night but now I keep thinking about how many people actually feel this exact same way. I am currently trying to find the right department at the council office to send our names to because sending an email into the void never works and I want someone to actually look at these names.

Air brakes use can also be avoided by installing Amber flashing lights that activate 50m before traffic lights to indicate trucks to start slowing down for a changing to red lights. Help the residents but also help the drivers!

there is a definite noise issue with trucks using air breaks , not only in Lorimer St, but on the freeway behind it. The empty trucks using Lorimer St also make a lot of noise going over the manhole covers. Sleeping is definitely an issue!

This is a dense residential area and the air brakes negatively affects quality of life for all who reside here.

Freeway trucks, designer motorbikes and speeding/hoon cars generate an unacceptable noise load on residents as well.

Its 2020 and we still have to deal with theses issues. Electric trucks can't come soon enough.

Very difficult to sleep at night due to traffic noise. The signs should also specify the speed limit which should be enforced!!
