This petition is to show the student body's want and need for a Gay-Straight Alliance at Lowndes High School.
Why does LHS need a Gay-Straight Allaince (GSA)?
Schools are responsible for providing a safe learning environment for all students. However, for many students, especially students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, etc,(LGBTQA+), school is not a safe place. There is compelling evidence that the majority of students frequently hear homophobic remarks and other types of biased language at school, and that LGBTQA+ students experience bullying and harassment at school because of their sexual orientation and/or their gender expression. These experiences contribute to a hostile climate and some LGBTQA+ students choose to miss school in order to avoid negative experiences that threaten their safety. Forming a GSA at Lowndes High would provide the safe place and support needed by many LGBTQA+ students.

The administration at Lowndes High continues to ignore the blatant harassment happening in these hallways. I am tired of being told to wait while my peers are suffering. We are demanding a safe space and they will not silence us.

PLEASE make this happen. I went to Lowndes and currently go to Kennesaw State University where they have tremendous support because of the space and acknowledgment given to them. Stop the hate and spread the love!
All Students at LHS need to have support and a safe place to talk about their problems. I believe this club will serve to be a positive vehicle for our LGBTQ community.
I'm bisexual. It'd be cool to have a place to be open about it and meet other LGBT+ peers.
There should be a GSA at every high school ... especially after the election which unfortunately is giving validation to a lot of homophobic (among other things) people. They're disproportionately targeted for harassment and need a safe space, especially at school!!
Thank you for presenting this petition, I myself have a transgender young adult. I have seen first hand how negative, bias, prejudice, and down right cruel others can be. I am totally with this petition for to give our children a fighting chance for equality, education, and the right not to be bullied by any means.
A lot of people can benefit from this, I was at Lowndes there are many who need this club.

I went through so much violence and bullying for being queer and transgender at LHS and Lowndes County Schools more broadly. I'm happy to support the students there now!
