The Department for Culture, Media and Science has excluded the city of Brighton & Hove from bidding for Government funding to install ultra fast broadband. Yet Brighton is recognised as having one of Europe's foremost digital, media and technology clusters. With over a thousand businesses, it has more in this sector per head of population than any other city in the UK. The cluster is key to delivering the sustainable employment that the city needs to grow and prosper. It is crazy that, just because they have a few thousand more homes, cities like Bradford are being invited to bid for ultrafast broadband investment and Brighton & Hove isn't. We ask the Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt to show some simple common sense and invite Brighton & Hove to join the cities that can bid for the funding.
