The school board just announced that classes will resume full time with transportation provided for everyone. I honestly never imagined how much power we had when we stood together on this, but it is clear that this win belongs entirely to you. Please keep an eye on the upcoming schedule …
Dear Mr. Johnston! We are the concerned parents of Shenandoah county. Last week the governor commented that he would be leaving it up to the school boards to make a decision regarding how many days and when students can return to school. In the briefing, his chief assistant even said it’s imperative that children return to school. Despite any disagreements we may have with our governor, I think we can all agree this statement was on point!
When school is scheduled to start back up again, our children will have been out of school for a little over 4 months. Only letting them return a few days is unacceptable! Schools needs to go back full time WITH TRANSPORTATION!! There are WAY too many families that will be negatively impacted by the proposed schedule and lack of transportation!
Children who are supposed to start kindergarten this year would be delayed, children who are already delayed will fall even more behind, and children who struggle with anxiety or depression need socialization with kids their own age and adults who are trained professionals. Not only is their learning a top priority, but mental wellness is also a top priority.
Parents of Shenandoah county have spoken up and signed this petition...SCHOOLS NEED TO BE OPENED FULL TIME AND ON TIME! Please don’t let children get behind in academics because of fear. It’s been stated that less than 1% of children under the age of 18 are likely to contract covid. That’s extremely low odds! Please...WE ARE BEGGING! Make the right decision for families across the county and open schools.
I have been reading through your stories about how these closures affect your families and they are truly heartbreaking. It is clear that I am not the only one concerned about our children because this movement has grown into something much larger than I ever imagined.

I think that ALL children need to go back to school full time. All students should be able to have transportation to and from school. I rely on transportation every single day and I don't want to worry about if one of my children have it and my others don't. That doesn't make me feel safe.

These children will not get correct education with just going one day a week or not at all. Parents will have to move around their work schedules to be able to take care of the child during school hours... It makes no sense to keep the kids out of school..

As a mother of 5 kids their education is the most important thing. So many kids are already behind when all of this started going on. We can go to the mall, out to eat, let our kids play together at the park. In my eyes if they can do all of this they can go to school!!!!

The kids need school, sports, friends, their teachers! There should be no restrictions on any of these! Full time with transportation!

Please begin the school year under the previous normal routine. We have 4 grchildren in the SCPS and
they desperately need a consistent
and steady learning environment . Their future intellect and life skills depend on it!! If parents are not comfortable sending their own children due to COVID, then that is their choice! But your choice and your obligation to shen co taxpayers is to open all schools M-F to all grade levels and to continue to provide the best in person educational experiences.
