Leon is officially free to play again because the league office intervened and struck down the unfair contract extension. This result belongs to everyone who spoke up against these predatory tactics. Stay tuned to the league updates to make sure these restrictive practices stay gone for good.

3 Years ago Leon signed a two year contract with Rushden & Diamonds, he breached the terms of his contract and was sacked. His contract had an option of a years extension. When Rushden sacked Knight he was told he could no longer play football in England until his contract had expired. This month Knight agreed to sign for Darlington F.C. after waiting out his 2 years, however Rushden are demanding a 30k fee for the player and have taken the option to extend his contract up. This is surely against Leon's rights. Leon's trade is a footballer. This is like you being sacked from your job and then not being allowed to go on and do the same job elsewhere in the same country. It may have been the right decision to make Leon wait out the initial 2 years, but to extend his contract after sacking him and with no intentions of playing him again is surely against his rights. Despite choosing to take up the extra year on his contract thus restricting him from his trade, they are also not paying him the wages that he is entitled to according to his contract. Hopefully we can get enough names for the PFA and Rushden to take notice.

The silence from the club is unacceptable while they continue to block a professional from earning a living. Email the PFA office today and demand they intervene on Leon's behalf. Post the link to this page on Facebook so more people see how these contracts are being used to hold players hostage.

This is a joke. How can a club sack a player but still own his registration? Let the lad play.

Total madness. You cant hold onto someone just to stop them earning a living elsewhere. PFA needs to step in now.

Ridiculous behavior from the club. Blocking his career when they dont even want him is just pure spite.

Give the guy a break. Everyone deserves a second chance to play the game they love.
