Chickens have been companions of humans for thousands of years. When allowed to range in the yard, they are very entertaining and they provide benefits such as, outstanding pest control, top quality compost, and fresh, nutritious eggs.
We want to be able to legally raise chickens in Ogden, Utah. Ordinances prohibiting chickens are probably unconstitutional.

we just hit 250 signatures and its honestly wild to see how many people want backyard chickens here. im going to start putting together a plan to bring this to the city council because things are finally picking up steam.

we are getting so high in numbers that the city council has to take us seriously now. lets hit that 250 mark today so we have some real momentum when i drop these papers off.

been talking to a few people at the city planning office lately to see how this could actually work. they are listening but things move pretty slow so thanks for sticking with me while we push on this.

I don't want to raise chickens in my ogden backyard but I have neighbors who would and I would love to partake in some fresh eggs and chicken entertainment for the kids! Please allow those who want to, to raise chickens in their Ogden backyard.
I feel there is more benefit from keeping birds. They will eat insects. My family can eat more foods we grow ourselves. With all the food safety issues it is even more important to raise what we can ourselves for ourselves.
I was forced to get rid of my pet chickens. They did a great job of feeding my family eggs, and riding my home and garden of pests. Now I'm over whemled by bugs and constantly sick from the bug sprays.
I grew up with chickens and was disappointed that Ogden bans them. We chose Ogden because chickens and livestock are all around us, and had a small town feeling. We have decided to give this a trial stay after retirement from the service, only if it changes these pointless bans.
When we had chickens, illegally, I was active and able to walk, now that I had to get rid of them I've regressed back to my wheelchair. They are a wonderful therapy animal who gives me eggs instead of hair balls.
Chickens are the best! And their eggs are healthy and cheap food for families. We need to be more reliant on ourselves, rather than grocery stores for our food when we can, and this is a great way to do that.

Please, consider our right to have and love this gift from God. To backyard chicken owners, these animals are extensions of our family, with names and the love from those who have undertaken the desire to raise and care for them. I ask you to please, follow in the steps of SLC and other cities throughout Utah and make this legal in Ogden. Thank you!
