The advertisement in the photograph was recently placed by Lamar
Advertising of Montgomery, AL (http://www.lamar.com)
on I-85 North near the Alabama State University campus; a predominant black
school. This add is for the white supremacist group; League of the South (https://www.facebook.com/leagueofthesouth).
The League of the South is listed on the SPLC Web Page as a hate group (http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/groups/league-of-the-south)
and has the following as their doctrine:
Michael Hill, the group’s president,
wrote an essay two years ago that says: -
“White people are “endowed with a God ordained superiority.”
Freeing the slaves was “a disaster for whites and blacks alike.
Black people “have never created anything approximating a civilization.”
It’s a “monumental lie” that all men are created equal.
He’s a man who believes slavery is biblically ordained, and that the Southern
states should be a separate country ruled by white people”.
The only purpose of this sign is to spread hate and a misguided idea of
one race being superior to another. It does not help, in anyway, the image projected
on Montgomery, AL which it has fought for years to escape. The only result from this sign will be to
drive a wedge between the population and project an image of bigotry that could
lead to major business and tourist not coming to Montgomery; which could be a disaster
to the Montgomery economy.
You may also consider that many who use Lamar Advertising in the
Montgomery area, many of which are minority owned, may wish to reconsider who
they use in the future for their advertising needs.
So I ask that you remove the advertisement mentioned immediately and
refrain from such in the future. It is a disgrace not only to the city of
Montgomery and the entire State of Alabama, it is also a disgrace to your
company as well.
Living in this city my whole life and I am sick of seeing this kind of garbage on our highways. Take it down now. We dont need this trash representing Montgomery.
