Respect, Trust, Peace
The Employees Association, AFSCME Local 101, representing more than 450 proud employees of Santa Clara Valley Water District, petition the CEO, Beau Goldie, and the Board of Directors to reinstate language, removed from Governance Policies in August 2012 (EL-3), that recognizes the importance of positive labor-management relations and to work with us to restore respect, trust and a peaceful labor environment. Further, we ask the CEO and Board to affirm that we are one district by committing to:
- Openly communicate, cooperate, and recognize that we share responsibilities essential to the successful performance of our work and that through meaningful collaboration we can be successful.
- Demonstrate honest and fair leadership at the highest level of the organization, and resolve that "management and employees will demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, honesty, and conduct to inspire trust and foster collaboration with each other, customers, and the community." (EL8.1)
- Exemplify the District Values Statement (GP-7) in all aspects of labor-management relations.

I have been reading the stories you all are sharing and I am truly humbled by the courage it takes to speak up about our workplace. Please know that I am meeting with officials behind the scenes to make sure your experiences are not ignored. This progress belongs entirely to the people who chose to put their names on this document.

Seeing this much momentum take hold is truly humbling because I never thought we would reach this point. You have all built something remarkable here and I am just fortunate to be a witness to your tenacity.

The way things are going right now is just sad. We all deserve a better workplace than this.
Management needs a reality check. We are the ones doing the actual work every day.
Bring back the respect. Its about time they started acting like we are all on the same team.
Hard to be proud of where I work when management treats us like the enemy. Fix it.
Treating people like adults is not that hard. Stop the games and get back to working together.
