This is on behalf of my 12 year old Autistic Son Ethan, better known as "Lono". Lono is a non-verbal kid who is some cases is just like any 12 year old boy. He loves to eat, enjoys tv, and on occasion enjoys trips to McDonalds. Simply put for many years since being in the Department of Education he has been put through so many inconsistancies for his speech therapy. Poor kid, he doesn't know if he's coming or going! At this point I am asking the Department of Education to supply him with speech services with an augmentative device. Being so developmentally behind, the DOE appears to take the position that "Lono is not ever expected to talk , and his communication needs are already being met appropriately". Therefore, I am starting this petition in hopes of showing who ever will listen that my son deserves a chance. He deserves to be trained on a augmentative device, which is the easiest way to communicate, to be a part of this world, and to build confidence to go beyond his comfort zone. I have finalized a formal request for an independent educational evaluation and sent it to the district office. My focus is now on securing a meeting with the administrator responsible for assistive technology allocations. Further updates will follow regarding their response to these documentation demands.

The traction on this petition has prompted a response from a local legislative aide who wants to review the current speech therapy inconsistencies. I am currently assembling the necessary documentation to present at our scheduled meeting.

Sending love to Lono! He deserves the same chance as every other kid to express himself.
Every child deserves a voice. How can they just decide he isnt expected to talk? Heartbreaking.
Get this boy the tech he needs. It's 2016 for crying out loud. The DOE needs to wake up and help him.
My nephew uses a device and it changed his world. Dont let them deny this kid his future.
Keep fighting for him. He has a lot to say if they would just listen.
