To the Hon John Paul Langbroek:
This is apetition to gain government support, your support, for an autism-specific school in QLD.
Our goal is to establish a non-IQ based autism school from prep to year 12 - offering adaptive and individual learning plans, therapeutic support and special education teachers for children on the moderate to severe autism spectrum.
As parents of children with autism, we have recognised a hole in the education system in QLD for children who fall between the gap; They do not qualify for special school - but are not able to regulate in a mainstream setting (even with a special education unit).
We plan to remedy this by taking as many signatures as we can to our State Government - in the hopes to reform Education Queensland for the betterment of our children.
Help us to FILL THE GAP!

Its a basic human right to have access to a suitable education program and a legal requirement for ALL kids to attend school. Its sickening how the Qld gov is due to spend $500,000 on a public relations campaign to educate the public about their policies but they can't find the funds to give our ASD kids what they deserve!
As a teacher of and parent of an autistic child, I have to say the worst thing they ever did was change the eligibility for Special schools to only those with Intellectual Impairment. Regular schools are not safe or supportive environment for a large majority of students with ASD, in fact in most cases it they are detrimental.
this is my son's third school. Its been a huge struggle and battle to get him to be treated fairly and not bullied.Im constantly told that my son will never be a rocket scientist and unfortunately will slip through the cracks in the system.so disappointed that this is hiw
We have been to 3 different state schools including one with a really big SEU. We now homeschool because the school system failed my son socially, emotionally and academically.
This would not only be a wonderful opportunity for the children but also lessen the pressure felt by the current schooling system to cope with behaviors they are not equipped for :-)
this is the most cost effective solution for the state. long term costs will be 3000% higher. Look further than the end of the political purpose of keeping your party in power!
Please help us help our children with autism

My child falls into this category. While the school works hard to accommodate, the understanding sometimes just isn't there and situations that shouldn't get out of control, do. Every child deserves an education! The state government is failing their duty of care by not helping these kids!
