Kingswood Oxford recently opened up an apparel store, KO & Co. This name was chosen by the KO students, so clearly the school wants the youth involved in this new investment to promote KO spirit. However, students are charged excessive prices for the articles of clothing, >$70 for a sweatshirt for example. Now, this is fine. Personally, I'd pay more for some decent gear to support school spirit. However, Students are not allowed to wear their own school gear in school. Now, with school and school activities taking about 10 hours out of a 16 hour day (assuming people are awake for 16 hours), it is ridiculous to deny students the ability to flaunt their school pride on campus. The current system is very restricted, and causes the purchase of KO apparel to be a waste of money which could be going towards books, tuition, etc.

Proposal:

Either lower the cost of KO Apparel or let students wear their purchased KO gear on campus, during school

I started this because I was frustrated by the policy but hearing so many of you share your own experiences has been eye opening. It turns out I am not the only one who feels like this is a strange way to handle school spirit. Your stories are the engine behind this and I am just humbled that you chose to back me up.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by how many of you have decided that this issue is worth your energy. This movement has quickly become something far beyond what I thought it would be, and it belongs entirely to the community now.

I too go to private school with ridiculously overpriced school gear. When I was sent this petition I felt it was my duty to sign it.
