We, the undersigned, are alarmed that current plans for the new Camas Ridge Community School devote roughly 25% of the site to serving cars, not the needs of children. We oppose wasting our taxpayer dollars on redundant parking facilities that do not align with City of Eugene Climate Action and Transportation plans. We call upon our leaders from 4J and the City of Eugene to collaborate to reduce on-site parking at Camas Ridge Community School, providing the minimum parking allowed by City code, and a small arrival/departure loop for ADA accessibility purposes. To promote student health and safety, environmental stewardship, and equal access, the school should not encourage regular individual car trips.
Camas Ridge is a beautiful property where the kids can play, garden, and explore. To fill it with a huge parking lot is horrible for the environment, completely uneccesary, and a huge waste of money. Please allocate that money in a way that would better serve the children and the 4j community as a whole.
