The Khamis HIgh School is a Premier Academic institution in Mombasa County, In the Republic of Kenya.

This school has brought forth many a distinguished scholars and business and corporate leaders since it's days as the Arab School.

Throughout, the school has had a motto "Maendeleo Daima" which means, "Always Progressing"...., a motto which was even copied by a local primary school, MM Shah but which Latinized the Motto to "Semper Pprogrediuntur", which means the same as Khamis High schools Motto "Maendeleo Daima" but in Latin.

As Old Students of the school, we were shocked by blatant attempts to change our history, identity and deflate our pride by changing the Motto to a rather flat, tasteless and uninspiring Motto "Endevour to Excel".

This Motto is a very common Motto and we believe it is not appropriate. It not only robs us of our identity, but also makes a mockery of the very society the school is based at... A Swahili speaking people, full of pride of their language. What message does this change send to the Kiswahili Speaking people of Kenya?

Is Kiswahili Bad? Is English superior than Swahili? What message or motivation will the Candidate and general students of our beloved school derive from this unashamedly flat Motto?

It is to this end that we as stakeholders of the school, by virtue of our being the Old Boys, hereby append our signatures to this Petition that we hope will trigger a rethink of the whole project of changing the Motto.

PLEASE WRITE YOUR YEAR OF GRADUATION FROM FORM 4!! IMPORTANT!

Sincerely,

Khamis High School Old Boys.

The school administration remains silent on our demand to keep our identity protected. Email the school board today to express your total rejection of this motto change. We need the current leadership to understand that our history is not up for negotiation.

The momentum behind this campaign proves that our history and our identity are not up for negotiation. Post the link to your Facebook feed today and email your local representative to demand they protect our Swahili heritage. Text three former classmates right now to keep this pressure mounting before the next board meeting.

He was known as Maalim Jagani If so kindly revert back via contacting the school since I paid a memorial visit on 20th August and Signed off the Visitors book where my contact is available. I came to Khamis High School for my Form 5 and 6 1985-1986. I passed my KACE with flying colours and joined the prestigious University of Nairobi. Now working as a diplômât in the Kenyan Foreign Service. I opposé any purported change of motto. No!

A school like Khamis is not just a place with blackboards and chalks, its an institution where boys are fostered into men, men who can standout in society. Everything attached to it is our history, Maendeleo Daima is part of that history, removing it is the same as wiping off a little part of our history.

The previous motto "maendeleo daima" is gar much better plus we also want to respect the founders of the school.last point is that we are in mombasa where swahili language is the main language so let us value the national language.
