To offer full and deserved recognition to The Unsung Hero, and a son of his beloved County Kerry, we believe a most fitting tribute would be to rename Kerry Airport in his honour.

Tom Crean, Antarctic Explorer who, on numerous and well documented occasions, showed bravery in the extreme, to come to the aid of and to save the lives of his colleagues, should be recognised for his heroic deeds and we, the undersigned, call on the owners of Kerry Airport, to consider renaming Kerry Airport in his memory.

I was reading through the stories about Tom Crean again and it just hits me how much he risked for others while asking for nothing in return which is exactly why this renaming needs to happen. People keep messaging me with these wild personal connections to his legacy and I have been trying to respond to everyone although my inbox is getting kind of chaotic.

Let's make this happen in time for the Centenary of Tom Crean, Ernest Shackleton & Frank Worsley's epic crossing of South Georgia and subsequent rescue of the men on Elephant island.

Tom Crean is a true Irishman of immense courage, determination and personal endurance. A hero in the true meaning of the word, of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration, and a veteran of all three major expeditions of the early 20th Century. Ireland has not until recent years acknowledged Tom Creans unquestionable contribution to world exploration. Whats more surprising is that his native County Kerry has also been slow in this regard. County Kerry needs to do make a substantial gesture of recognition for this man, and naming its airport in his honour would be very appropriate, and would i'm sure be most welcomed by the people of Kerry but also the rest of the country. Tom Crean is now internationally recognised for his antarctic exploits, thanks in the main to author Michael Smith.
