Keep the NET in Downtown Norfolk
We, the undersigned students, residents, and supporters of the downtown Norfolk community, petition the leadership of Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) to keep the NET shuttle running on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk.
The NET shuttle provides a vital and convenient service to many people, especialliy students attending Tidewater Community College's Norfolk campus. With stops in the center of the campus, it is the preferred method of transportation for students and visitors to TCC. In comparison, the proposed light rail service stations pose a greater inconvenience to our older and disabled students, as the proposed rail stops are further away from the campus.
The NET shuttle also has a positive effect on our downtown business community. Many employees downtown use the shuttle to get to their buildings, reducing traffic in an already congested area (made more so by light rail construction). Also, local retailers and restaurants rely on the NET to bring in customers.
We ask that you consider keeping the NET as a part of our local transit system, whether as a free or paid service.
