The York Regional Transit (YRT) has a service plan change proposal for April 2013 that includes ending the YRT GO Train Shuttle Route 242.
The YRT 242 Route provides invaluable service to those riders who use it everyday to and from the Richmond Hill GO Train Station.
Without the 242 Route the alternatives (although several) add the following hindrances to daily commute:
1. Dependency on non shuttle bus routes
2. Need to walk significant distances to Bus Stops
3. Risk of missing GO train departures due to late arrival of buses from traffic congestion.
4. Risk of missing bus pickup from normal buses due to late arrivals of GO train to GO train stations.
A typical typical morning commute for riders along this route from pickup on the YRT Shuttle to UNION Station is 1.5 hours.
A typical evening commute for riders along this route from GO Train pickup at UNION Station to drop off along this route is 1.25 hours.
Loss of this route has potential to add 20 to 30 minutes to commutes in both directions due to wait times for buses that are not coordinated with Richmond Hill GO train arrival departures at Richmond Hill GO Train Station and Langstaff GO Train Station.
This can mean a 3 to 3.5 hour total daily commute for riders along the YRT 242 route.
This petition will be sent to GO Train Management, YRT Management, and Nick Papa the Councillor for Ward 5 Councillor of Richmond Hill.
Seeing all these names show up is honestly overwhelming because I keep thinking about how much time we are all fighting to save on our commutes. It is so validating to know that I am not the only one stressed about those ridiculous extra minutes in the morning. I am going to print this out soon and start knocking on some doors at the YRT office.

Used this route for years. Living in Richmond Hill is tough enough with the traffic without losing our connection.

I rely on the 242 to get to the station on time. If they cut it I'm definitely going to miss my train.

Total nightmare if this goes away. Walking to the other stop in the middle of winter is not an option.

RIDICULOUS. My commute is already way too long as it is. Fix this.
