Preserve Scottsdale's Open Spaces! Keep the park a public park!
We OPPOSE Great Hearts Academy (“GHA”) building a Sports Complex in DC Ranch, on the land near the SE corner of Pima Road and Union Hills Drive (specifically South of Trailside Vw and West of 91st St).
The reasons we OPPOSE the building of a Sports Complex in DC Ranch are:
1. The Property was deeded by DC Ranch, L.L.C. to the City of Scottsdale in 2003 for no purpose other than a public park, in perpetuity. Scottsdale residents and taxpayers want the City of Scottsdale to keep the Property for its intended use and uphold the deed restrictions.
2. Scottsdale residents and taxpayers, including parents of SUSD students, oppose the Property being developed as a Sports Complex with priority rights given to GHA.
3. Scottsdale residents and taxpayers further oppose the Property being developed by GHA for reasons including, but not limited to, the following:
a) Excessive traffic;
b) Noise and light pollution;
c) Increased crime;
d) Lower property values; and
e) Not maintaining the “dark skies” philosophy of DC Ranch and North Scottsdale.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to protect our neighborhood park. We are nearly at one hundred signatures and I truly believe that reaching that mark could help us get some real attention from the city council.

We need a park for children and a dog park, not athletic fields for a school that isn't even close by. The traffic in this area is already too congested. Please don't add to this mess by going forward with a "Great Hearts Park."
Please use this property for its intended use I feel that it is unethical for the Scottsdale City Council to allow a private entity to develop this land for private profit or exclusive use when the land was donated for a specific use for the great good of the community.
The sneakiness of this whole project is the most offensive part. If it was such a great deal for Scottsdale, why did GHA and the Rose Group try to sneak it through the City Council's Consent Agenda with a misleading title on it?
There are 16 community parks in Scottsdale and 25 neighborhood parks. Not one of these 41 parks has a track or football field. This open space was deeded to the City of Scottsdale for a public park, not to be a sports complex for Great Hearts Acadamies.
The park should not be developed until funding for its maintenance and operations is secured. While Great Hearts may be paying for part of the development of facilities for their school's "exclusive" use, the city is taking responsibility for maintenance of these facilities.
No park of any kind. All DC Ranch neighborhoods have their own exclusive park(s). Scottsdale does not need, nor can it afford the development and maintenance of another park in northeast part of the city.
Public funds and/or land should not be used to build an intrusive sports complex for the primary use of GHA and violates the land use purpose.
