We feel very lucky to live in La Canada which boasts a first-class school district. However, on the foreign language program, we seem to be light years behind! While other school districts are opening up Chinese programs to catch up with the world trend, why is LCHS considering canceling Chinese? This is an important decision that should not be made without community input.
I have learned a lot in the Mandarin course, and I don't want that knowledge to go to waste!
The Mandarin Chinese class at LCHS offers an incredible opportunity for our students in terms of cultural knowledge and practical utility. First, learning and engaging a language beyond what has been conventionally offered brings a new cultural experience to our students. Second, Mandarin is a highly useful language in our globalizing world. Students, through a high school Mandarin Chinese class, gain skills for practical and personal success. Please maintain the Mandarin Chinese program at LCHS.
Please keep this program alive. It is irresponsible for the district to abandon these kids (who already taken level 1 and 2) classes and leave them with NO alternative option to finish the required 3-4 yrs of foreign language requirement for college application!!
With the advent of China's rapid economic success, it would be to the detriment of LCHS students to have such a crucial educational resource removed. China has become the number 2 trading partner of the U.S., and the increasing use and popularity of the language only reflects the need to keep Chinese classes available for our students.
Keep the Mandarin class at LCHS.

We have 2 daughters of Chinese heritage and greatly planned to have them study Mandarin at LCHS. It shocks us this opportunity will be lost. Please do all possible to keep Manadarin available. Thank you.
