To the Chapman Elementary School Administration, PTA, and Spirit Wear Committee:

We, the undersigned students, families, staff, and supporters of Chapman Elementary, respectfully ask that the upcoming spirit wear collection include Mandarin Immersion Program designs, including designs featuring Mandarin characters, across the available spirit-wear options.

The Mandarin Immersion Program (MI) is an important part of the Chapman Elementary community. We appreciate that a Mandarin-related spirit wear option has been available in the past, and we would like to see MI represented more broadly in the upcoming spirit wear collection.

In particular, we would like to see Mandarin characters incorporated into the spirit wear designs. These characters provide a clear and recognizable representation of the Mandarin Immersion Program and offer students and families a way to visibly identify with and represent the program.

Our goal is to give MI families the opportunity to choose MI designs on a variety of spirit-wear items—not just a single or limited item. This would include T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, hats, bags, or other items offered through the school’s spirit-wear program.

Having MI designs and Mandarin characters available across the collection would give students and families another way to show their connection to the program and participate in school spirit. It would also recognize the Mandarin Immersion Program as an established part of our school community.

This request is not intended to replace or diminish any existing Chapman Elementary designs. Rather, we hope to expand the available choices so that families can select spirit wear that represents the programs and communities they are part of.

Our Petition

We respectfully ask the Chapman Elementary Spirit Wear Committee to consider including Mandarin Immersion Program designs featuring Mandarin characters as an option across the upcoming spirit wear collection, giving MI students and families meaningful choices when purchasing school spirit wear.

By signing below, we are showing our support for having Mandarin Immersion designs and Mandarin characters available on multiple spirit wear items for Chapman Elementary students, families, staff, and supporters.

We hope the number of signatures collected will demonstrate the level of interest in having expanded Mandarin Immersion spirit-wear options within our school community.
