We, the undersigned, represent current and former YWLA Fort Worth students, parents, teachers, and supporters. We respectfully demand that FWISD AND YWLA ADMINISTRATION: (1) REVERSE ITS DECISION TO DISSOLVE CHINESE MANDARIN as a foreign language option, a long-standing and unique curriculum option to YWLA since its inception in 2011, and (2) REVERSE THE REMOVAL OF MS. HSIANG-YIN "ALICE" CHEN as an educator.
According to the FBI.gov, "the counterintelligence and economic espionage efforts emanating from the government of China and the Chinese Communist Party are a grave threat to the economic well-being and democratic values of the United States." Through its Mandarin Chinese courses under the tutelage of Ms. Chen, YWLA is in an incredibly powerful position of preparing young women to become fluent in a foreign language that can lead to influential careers in the US government and intelligence agencies, allowing them to directly compete with their private school counterparts - both male and female - at the campuses of Fort Worth Country Day and Trinity Valley School, and to compete nationwide for coveted acceptances to the very top universities in the US and beyond.
Families select enrollment at YWLA because of unique curriculum not available at other FWISD Schools or Programs of Choice. Preserve what makes YWLA unique: offering powerful educational opportunities to young women that set them apart from the pack. Preserve Mandarin Chinese as a learning program and Ms. Chen as the educator.

YWLA Alum 2019 Less than a handful of schools in FWISD offer Chinese, which sets Young Women's apart from the others. Why are administrators making unnecessary changes? Administrators should support their teachers instead of destroying their many years of work.
I am a current YWLA student enrolled in the AP Chinese course. Ms Chen has been a crucial part of my education and has helped me develop a love for not only the language, but the culture as well. To deprive students of these opportunities would be incredibly saddening because Ms Chen is an amazing educator.
With China being one of the biggest and influential economies in the world, it seems like a no-brainer to offer your students the opportunity to build language skills that will differentiate them and open up vast opportunities
Ms. Chen has left a lasting impact on myself as well as other students at YWLA. Ms. Chen saw my growth from 6th grade to senior year and it would be extremely unfair for future students to be neglected this experience due to a statistic.
delete YWLA Class of 2020 I took Chinese with Ms. Chen for 5 years while at YWLA. She is an amazing, hard working, and inspiring teacher. Ms. Chen has put so much love, time, and dedication to building up the Chinese department. This effort should be celebrated and supported, not stopped.

Ms. Chen had a huge impact on her students. She was just as invested in our learning as she was with nurturing us as students. She made learning a new language fun! Even for students who weren’t in her class, she was a fun, comforting, and safe person.
