As tourism in the UK is currently suffering (as with everywhere affected), It has been suggested by Isle of Wight, Tory MP, Bob Seely, that we test opening the floodgates to tourism on the Isle of Wight to help reduce the loss to local businesses.

This is a cause very close to my heart as my Mum and Dad, who are both in the vulnerable category, live on the Island. I wish more than anything that I could be with them during these strange and difficult times and want to do everything I can to support them and their community.

Currently, cases of Corona Virus stand at a much smaller number here compared to the rest of the areas within the UK. At the moment, the ferry from the mainland is a very limited service which is preventing a lot of tourism. Whilst it's understood that businesses are losing out, it is vital we maintain this until the rest of Great Britain reduce the lockdown restriction. If we open floodgates to holiday makers, the Isle of Wight will become very vulnerable and the small local hospital does not have the capacity to cope with an increase in cases or fatalities.

It is understood that tourism is suffering and therefore businesses would want to open at this time, however it is the same for the whole country, not just on the island and we must stand united to support our local communities.

Please sign this petition to let the local MP, Bob Seely, see that we are together in this and we should all be united in protecting our communities as part of Great Britain.
