We, the undersigned, believe that allowing Stanwell Street to be the access route to the new estate being built on the Silverfields site, Edinburgh, raises serious safety concerns for the children arriving and leaving Taobh na Pàirce Primary, and for all pedestrians seeking to access Pilrig Park via Stanwell Street. We demand Persimmon, the developers, and the Edinburgh City Council, to put the access route through Tennant Street instead.

I think there are major safety issues in allowing Stanwell St to be the access route for the new estate at Silverfields. The Gaelic school already has one extremely busy road on one side of it. Increasing traffic noise, pollution and safety risk would be unacceptable. The route should absolutely be via Tennant St.

Children, parent and pedestrian safety is a priority. I am concerned that an increase in traffic to an already congested area will jeopardise this. Please can a safer entrance be created from Tennant St, not Stanwell St. (I understand Tennant St was historically the original entrance to the proposed site).

Due to the significant deviation from the original planning application and clear risk to school and nursery children of the proposed route- planning for the access route via Stanwell St is unviable/ a hazard and irresponsible. Routing through the original route of Tennant St would appear to be a simple solution.

Hi - Edinburgh Council has just banned cars at drop off and pick up time at 6 edinburgh primaries. I don't understand how a new housing scheme access road could be given consent given the council's own position on traffic near schools. Please ensure the developer uses the existing access at Tennant Street. Many thanks Barbie Lyon

The original permission was given when the development was to have been for fewer houses and a care home , which would have resulted in far less traffic, especially around the start of the school day . Since there already is an acceptable access via Tennant Street I do not believe we should endanger school children and infants and that planning permission should be refused

This route is well used by many families as it connects the school, playground and park. Please keep it safe for our children who walk, cycle and scoot this way. In a time when children are being encouraged to keep fit safe routes to school are important.

There was not a functioning Primary School in this site when approval was granted (for the previously planned residential home and for the housing development that is currently being built) with access through Stanwell St. This has changed, and there is now a busy one, with the peculiarity that a greater proportion of the children travel there by car, because the catchment area is the whole of Edinburgh. Granting approval to a second housing development with access through Stanwell St. would mean an impossible traffic pressure on this street. It would also make traffic worse on the stretch of Bonnington Road immediately adjacent to the school (where it is already very intense), increasing greatly the hazard to the many school and nursery children and their siblings, (some of them very young) walking in and out of the school gates.

Allowing Stanwell Street to be used as a vehiclular access is an accident waiting to happen. It will considerably increase the volume of traffic. this is particularly worrying as it is closest to the entrance to the nursery as well as the pedestrian access to the park, which again has many young visitors, This group of young people are least traffic aware and can suddenly be unpredictable in their actions, It would make much more sense for the entrance to be at Stanwell Street instead.
