As Henrico County looks to redraw the 2021 school boundaries, there are several options that would separate Raintree into two different High School zones: Tucker and Godwin and/or Godwin and Freeman. This would not only divide our community, but would prohibit students from walking to school, creating traffic safety and bus transportation concerns.
Raintree was the first master plan community developed in Henrico County in the mid-1970’s. Although the original development included less, what has become, generally referred to as Raintree, encompasses the whole quadrant from Gaskins to Pump and from Gayton/Quioccasin to Ridgefield (for our purposes here, including Raintree West and the Gayton Forest subdivisions).
We have a decades old, established, strong community that is now threatened by Henrico County Public School redistricting project. For nearly 50 years, our children have walked our community trails together, spent summer days at our anchoring community Raintree Swim & Racket Club, and attended elementary, middle, and high school together as a united community.
Please sign the petition and submit comments to Keep Raintree Together at Godwin High School and let the Henrico School Board and the Redistricting Committee know that residents of Raintree oppose any option that splits our community.

The momentum behind this fight proves that the Henrico School Board cannot simply erase our neighborhood borders without a fight. They think they can carve up Raintree for their own convenience but this turnout shows they have underestimated our resolve.

Please keep Raintree and adjacent neighborhoods in the Godwin zone. I can’t imagine a scenario in which it makes sense for students within walking distance of a school to be bused to another. The GHS homecoming parade goes through Raintree! This plan sounds poorly thought out.
I grew up in Raintree and attended Godwin. This change would mean we could no longer walk to the school less than a mile from our homes. I strongly oppose this redistricting!
I would be a ridiculous act financially and from a community perspective, to split the Raintree/Gayton Forest neighborhoods into two different school districts. As a tax payer and resident of this area, I take GREAT umbrage with this proposal.
The division of the Raintree neighborhood, splits us from our long established community, makes kids who are less than 1.4 miles from school be bussed further away, and will have high schoolers drive 64 in heavy morning traffic to Tucker. Please reconsider the logistics of this plan option and it’s ramifications.
Please keep our neighborhood together and consider the walking option these students currently enjoy at Godwin High School which reflects the current written HCPS policy concerning walking neighborhoods in redistricting
We live on Idlebrook Dr in Raintree and it makes no sense for my child to need to be bussed across the highway to attend a high school when he can walk through the raintree community trails with his neighbors to a closer high school.
We can walk to Godwin, hear the band, and watch the track team run past our house. Our children are safer going to Godwin than commuting in the congestion during traffic times on Gaskins, 64, and Parham.

Do not split up the kids in Raintree. I moved here in 1985. Then when my parents died I moved back and my wife and I are raising our two kids here. The intent was for them to go to Godwin like my brother and I. Please consider messaging or calling Pat O'Bannon who is our board of supervisors representative.
