They actually listened and Mrs Nelson is allowed to stay on at Guyer which feels like a total fever dream honestly. I keep checking my phone expecting a reversal but it really is happening and I am just so relieved that all of you cared enough to help keep her …

Our teacher, Mrs. Nelson, has been an ASL teacher at Guyer High School for the last two years. She is certified to teach deaf ed ages 0-22 and has sadly fallen short of passing the test to teach hearing students ASL. Sadly due to not passing the test, she may not be able to return to her job at Guyer High School. Mrs. Nelson has made an impact on so many students lives and we could not imagine learning ASL from anyone other than her. So please sign this petition in order for her to stay at Guyer

I spent the whole morning reading through the stories you all are leaving in the comments and it is honestly so overwhelming to see how many lives she has touched in just two years. I am trying to get a meeting with the administration to show them exactly what we are losing if they let her go because this bureaucracy is honestly exhausting and they really need to see the human side of all this.

I just checked the count and I cannot believe how fast these signatures are piling up because Mrs. Nelson honestly deserves every bit of this support. We are almost at that big two hundred fifty mark so please tell anyone who will listen because momentum is everything if we want to keep her here at Guyer.

we are honestly gaining so much momentum right now and I keep refreshing the page just to watch the numbers climb toward that first hundred mark. if you have a second please get this link in front of someone else because the school administration is definitely going to notice if we hit that goal by this afternoon.

Mrs. Nelson has been my daughters teacher for 3 years. She has been a fantastic influence on Katharine. It would be a shame if she was not allowed to keep teaching at Guyer.

Mrs. Nelson has made all of us in ASL want to continue to be in ASL. Personally most of us would’ve stopped at the two years required but now groups of us are continuing to ASL 3&4. She’s amazing, and it’d be Guyer’s lost.

As an asl student there should be no difference in teaching a hearing student and a deaf student. It’s like saying a guy that speaks Spanish can only teacher Mexicans and not Americans

As a member of the deaf community I beg you to allow someone who is passionate about spreading the language of ASL to youth and showing many children that deafness does not make someone worthless

I was lucky enough to be her teacher’s aide this year and the kids love learning from her and personally I see such a difference in their passion for signing than I did with the previous ASL teacher. I love Mrs. Nelson, she is my mentor, and she is one of the most influential people in my life.
