PETITION TO DIRECTOR’S COUNCIL
Massey is considering a change to its current timetabling system which provides
students the ability to take full-year and semestered courses (moduflex) to one that only offers
semestered courses. Massey is the only school in our area that offers the Moduflex timetabling
system. It is an integral part of Massey’s strong academics and it is what makes Massey
successful. The system has widespread support of the students, faculty, and alumni. Massey
has already been successfully using the system for a few decades. Changing it to semestered
system will take away the preferred option of many academically driven students and will be
highly detrimental to their pursuits as well as the overall education of other students at
Massey.
Our education system is about providing the best opportunities to all the students for
their optimal development. The current Moduflex system at Massey is achieving this objective
very well. It provides students with the benefits of semestered courses and full year courses
and thus satisfies the needs of every student. As parents, we wish to provide our children with
a quality education. We want to urge the school board to value education over other
considerations. We strongly oppose the proposed change to Massey High School’s Moduflex
system to a fully semestered system.

I can definitely attribute much of my success in advanced university courses to the study habits and knowledge that I developed as a Massey student with this curriculum. I think it definitely prepares students well and pushes them, so it would be a shame to see it go.
