Petition opposing the mid-year switch back to the old timetable format at Kitsilano Secondary. Our goal is not to oppose teachers or administrators. Our goal is merely to give students a say in a change that would greatly affect them.
I started this because the sudden change felt confusing but reading your messages has shown me how many others feel the exact same way. It is honestly overwhelming to see so many students coming together to ask for a seat at the table. Please keep telling your stories because they are proving that this impacts all of us more than anyone realized.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people have joined this effort to keep our school schedule as it is. This is entirely because of the students who decided their input actually belongs in the room where these decisions happen.

Having a schedule rotation as steady as the one we have now (where morning classes stay in the morning and afternoon ones in the afternoon) allows me to use my spares more productively, and therefore allows me to be a better student. Please do not change our current schedule system.

Mr. Parker (head of the Drama Department) made sure that senior Drama students have their blocks in the afternoon, to make it possible for our various projects to run smoothly. This sudden change of schedule makes all of the cautious work that's gone into place be for nothing. There has to be an alternative.

Changing the schedule just to accommodate the gym classes is pointless, those gym classes aren't going to get anything out of going bowling or skating, our academic education is way more important. changing the schedule will mess that up, and cause damage for our future.

The schedule was originally changed for a number of reasons. Many of us, especially seniors who have had 4 years of the original schedule, have reworked their calendars to fit the current class flow, including spares, binder organization, school productions, as well as many important extra-curricular events. The students have accommodated the new schedule, and have set up their year accordingly without fuss. To drop the students into another change throws all that adjustment out the window. The students deserve a consistent schedule they can rely on, as most orient their entire availability and organization around school and this change would throw a wrench right into the already stressed student's schedules when they least need it.

Many of us have set up our schedules around the new schedule and to change it back, once comfortable and accustomed to it, is not fair. Not only does it not help us, but messes up the flow of other certain classes and productions going on in the school.

Teachers have already set up their schedules so that it will work with this year's schedule. I know it will mess up Ms. Maguire's Psychology block as well as possibly filming for drama. Making a new schedule at the beginning of January when all students have become accustomed to their proper schedules is ridiculous and just in time for mid-terms to try and change up your study habits. If it's not working then change it for next year not in the middle of this year.
