They actually listened and the ceremony is staying at Ambler where it belongs which honestly blows my mind a little. I am still kind of processing that we pulled this off but I am so relieved for everyone who put in the work to keep our home campus tradition alive. …

To: The Dean of Tyler School of Art

We the students, alumni, and community of the LA-Hort program would like to respectfully request that the tradition of holding our graduation ceremony at Temple Ambler Campus be upheld. Many of us have spent the last 4 years attending classes at Temple Ambler and consider this campus to be our home. We work, study, learn, participate in clubs, and explore the beautiful arboretum all on this campus that we love. Many of us have played a large part in maintaining the gardens here, and we take great pride in them. Most of us have never set foot in the Tyler building and have had very few classes on the Main Campus. Students of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture have expected to graduate in Ambler, just as previous classes have at this campus for the last 102 years. We are a small community and want to say goodbye to one another and our professors in the intimate graduation ceremony we have been looking forward to. A graduation on Main Campus would feel irrelevant to us, and we are disappointed that this decision was made without our input. We believe that while there are still students who spend the majority of their academic career at the Temple Ambler Campus, a graduation at this campus should continue to be provided.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Respectfully Signed,

I honestly cannot believe how many people have joined in since I first typed this up in a total panic while staring at my textbooks. It is wild to see everyone coming together to defend our home campus because those gardens really are the heart of the whole program for so many of us.

I graduated from Ambler and my family really enjoyed the campus and it was a lovely example of what I was learning, working on and what LA can do. Most of my family is from the city. My graduation made everything come full circle for them.

Beatrix Farrand, the designer of the Formal Garden, was the first female landscape architect. It is an honor to graduate within one of her designs!

As founder and first director, You are making a mistake. The only thing Hort. and LA value above all else is the gardens. You will never get a penny from the alumni that give if you disrupt one of the sacred traditions of those students. Wake up and smell the roses!

During the 3 year program, we may never go to main campus. For many of us , we build no connection with main campus. but Ambler will remain special for us forever. Graduation should be part of our Ambler experience.

Ambler Campus is a very special place and I feel the students should be able to graduate on campus! Please respect the students and they have so much pride in the grounds and it's beauty! I had my graduation in the city and it was very inpersonal. Class of 1980 Thank you and Happy Spring!

My entire academic experience at Temple University revolves solely around Ambler and the surrounding Arboretum. Removing a graduation ceremony from Ambler removes any meaning or personal connection that I have to the University.

Ambler became my second home while completing both my undergrad and graduate degree. It was most appropriate that on my last day at the Ambler campus I walked the long walk to the parking lot, degree in hand.

If the students want to graduate at Ambler, give them something to smile about on graduation day and let them!
