A couple days ago, the new plans for the renovation of Hotelschool The Hague were released. In these plans a vital part of the campus The Hague seems to be missing.
Kinderbar
For almost 20 years, Kinderbar has been part of The Hague campus. It is a place where friends and memories are made. It is the place where both students and educators are invited to share a drink outside classes and meetings.
Kinderbar provides the students of HTH with the opportunity to help out behind the scenes, get to know their fellow students and educators, even show of our school to friends from other educations.
For almost 20 years, Senti Questo has organized Kinderbar with various themes, collaborations with the other associations and teachers. Various events, such as; International Food Festival with Student Council, 2 BARS 1 NIGHT with La Confrérie and Kinderbar with the Gentlemen’s Club, were held in Kinderbar or with the support of Kinderbar. Kinderbar connects all students and associations with each other.
Furthermore, Kinderbar is the only location in Hotelschool were the students can connect with their educators in an informal way. It encourages both students and educators gain a more rewarding professional relationship that might continue after graduation. It changes the relationship from just student and teacher to young professional and mentor.
Not only that, Kinderbar encourages HTHs students to invite their friends from other places and educations to come and share a drink. It is a way for students to show off Hotelschool and share their experiences with their friends. Many of these friends state that Kinderbar is an unique location and are surprised that both students and educators are able to join in. They often wish there was a place like this at their schools.
As Hotelschool The Hague is a hospitality education, it promotes itself as the Heart of Hospitality. It is strange to notice that at the Heart of Hospitality, there is (apparently) no place to show off our heart for hospitality, the attitude and the skills we are educated on in an informal and non-educational setting.
We believe Kinderbar is unique and should stay part of the Hotelschool The Hague campus.

The administration is quiet but they are watching these numbers crawl upward. If you can get one more person to sign today we will hit that first hundred and prove we are not going away.

As a balance to the daily stress and work and as a contact point for students, the Kinderbar should not be missing. Whether renovated or in its current state, taking away children's bar means taking away a big part of HTH and the heart of hospitality!
As the former chairman I believe kinderbar to be invaluable for both student and faculty, it positively increases the ambiance in school and strengthens the bound between student and teacher. I would not like to see HTH without kinderbar. I sincerely hope a compromise can will be found.
It was a great time in my HTH period in Kinderbar. The place to connect with lecturers and students. Especially for me as former IFT student, it helped me to interact with the 4-year study programme and build long-term relationships. Study year 2016-2018
Kinderbar has not only provided an enjoyable yet challenging real-life situation for students to apply concepts and theories learned in the classroom as well as discover and explore their inner selves in a safe environment.
My HTH experience would not have been the same without kinderbar. Apart from the social aspect, it was a unique learning experience to run the bar as former board member. Please continue to give the future students this opportunity and experience.

It’s also part of HTH’s culture and it brings together students as well as lecturers in a hospitable way. Let’s not destroy this just to get one step closer to the sterile private hospitality schools in Switzerland :/
