This petition is for all the AP World History alumni and current students who believe AP World History should retain its rightful place as a higher level history option for sophomores.
APWH was not only a class, but a community that can only be created in the social environment of sophomore year. APWH not only teaches students world history, but teaches students the work ethic and study skills that an AP class requires- an especially invaluable skill as sophomores become juniors.

The feedback I have received from current sophomores highlights how vital this curriculum is for their academic preparation. I am currently compiling these experiences to present to the administration during our upcoming review. Your ongoing participation ensures that our request remains a priority for the school board.

The level of engagement this petition has received highlights how deeply the sophomore year experience impacts our students. This momentum confirms that the community we have built at Weston High School is worth defending.

Taking AP World History as a sophomore was probably one of the most influencial and rewarding experiences during my time at Weston High School. The challenging pace and nature of this class taught me valuable study and work habits early on in high school that I continue to use in college. The challenges of AP World also made me feel closer to my classmates and teacher than I have in any other course at Weston High School. My little sister will be a sophomore at Weston next year and I want her to have the option that I did to take such an influential class. Please do not take away this opportunity for future WHS sophomores.
Never had I experienced such a strong sense of academic community than in the AP World History classroom. Learning alongside people who were passionate about the world while also gaining invaluable skills of time management and critical thinking helped set me up for success for the rest of high school and beyond. I hope that future sophomores have the opportunity to enjoy the class as much as I did.
I am a CP history student this year, but even I understand that 10th graders are mature enough and smart enough take and to appreciate AP courses.
Definitely my favorite class last year. WHAP is packed with lessons (writing, discussion, global awareness) that are highly applicable to the rest of high school and beyond. It doesn't make sense for WHAP to become a JR/SR elective since it wouldn't be as valuable to students--JR's tend to be very busy taking many AP courses, and AP's are not really considered important after college application for SR's. As sophomores, students are able to focus on WHAP's vital lessons while becoming better students for the future. Mrs. Lee works really hard to make this class awesome!
AP World History prepared me so well for all the other AP courses that I took and am taking. When I see juniors in APUSH (who did not take APWH as a sophomore) struggling to write a timed history essay, and not knowing what to do on a DBQ, I feel so glad to have taken APWH. If APWH does not remain as the only sophomore AP class, suddenly loading up junior year with APs without any prior experience is going to be a struggle for students.
This course was very valuable to me as a sophomore in highschool
This was perhaps the most valuable class I took at whs and a huge part of that reason was because of how challenging it was. A large part of that challenge would have been lost of it had only been an older student elective. In addition, I most likely would not have taken the class as an elective later because I was very math and science oriented and at that point there were many more math and science electives available. In addition, I think few people would choose to take a third yeah of world history after already learning it all. That being said, I do think it is a good idea to also offer an honors world history option sophomore year and potentially open up ap world to older students as well - though keeping an all sophomore class would be essential, as a huge part of the course was the cammraderie amongst classmates it caused, and that would be lost in a mixed level course

This course is a vital stepping stone for Junior and Senior year, when many students take multiple AP's. It teaches the skills needed to succeed in AP's, and hence softens the transition to junior and senior year. Imagine dealing with the shock of 3 AP's without ever having taken an Ap before?!
