ERIC DANIEL BRATTON’s LEGAL DEFENSE FUND If Eric Bratton would have shot two black youths in the leg at the Landing Shopping center instead of the Independence Shopping Center would he have received a 64-year sentence? Those are the sentiments of Eric Bratton’s family members who contend that racism played a central role in the sentencing phase and prosecution of his trial. Eric Bratton’s family members do not argue the fact that his actions do warrant time in prison. However, what is being questioned is the 64-year sentence that was imposed for two counts of assault, seven years each and two counts of armed criminal action of 25 years each to be served consecutive in a fight that occurred at the Independence Shopping center on January 14, 2012. Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were released from the hospital within 24-hours after the incident. No one was murdered but the Judge in this case treated the case as though someone was killed. We are saying “Let the Time fit the CRIME!” If you believe the 64-year sentence was unjust and Eric deserves a new trial please sign the petition and pass it on.
