Dear Committee

We the undersigned wish to register our concern over the dismissal of Juliette Pegram as Manager of the Headlands setting of Haxby Playgroups. Several of us have approached the committee directly requesting more information about this, but none has been forthcoming. As parents of children attending the playgroup at the time of this event we feel we should be allowed to know the background to the decision. We would also like to know the reason it was felt necessary to keep this information obscured. We are all more than happy with the level of care our children have received in the setting and from Juliette in particular, so we are at a loss as to why she should be so abruptly removed from her post. We would like to register our support for Juliette and, unless you can provide compelling evidence as to why her dismissal was an absolute necessity, her reinstatement as Manager.

Why did Juliette resign? Did she want to leave her job? I don't believe so. Therefore she must have felt under extreme pressure to do so. Juliette was instrumental in giving Haxby playgroups a good reputation, and consequently in enhancing that reputation. It is the actions of the committee, not this petition, that is endangering that good reputation.

Juliette was an inspiration to us all. She was adored by the children. It has been highlighted there were no safe guarding issues - so why was she not allowed to finish the term after she resigned? We still need answers?! Not blunt emails! The committee put their best interests before the children. Disgusting! This lady cared and nurtured the children wonderfully at Headlands for 3 years and we are expected to just accept this none sense! Not to mention another long standing member of the team also left due to the circumstances. So so sad. Juliette and her team were just outstanding in every aspect!

The removal of Juliette and the upset to staff caused my little girl to relapse into separation anxiety which it has taken all summer to conquer again. When I expressed this to the committee they just said I didn't need an explanation

Strongly support Juliette-what has happened has been absolutely ridiculous. She is such an amazing woman and the kids and parents loved her. Thank you Juliette for everything you’ve done for so many families. Headlands playgroup will never be the same.

It is the members of the committee that have and continue to damage the reputation of the setting. It is very upsetting what the committee have done to someone so passionate about their job. Juliette was clearly forced out! The ethos of the preschool will never be the same especially under the new management!

Hello Committee, thank you for engaging with us. In response to your comment about the content of the petition being inaccurate, we fully agree. We have had absolutely no concrete information from the committee about this event, thus we are forced to draw our own conclusions based on the rumour mill and wild conjecture. Since launching this petition we have heard that, rather than being dismissed, Juliette left her post following what sounds like a campaign of criticism and attempts to undermine her confidence and authority. We are also lead to believe that she and other members of staff were obliged to enter into a legal confidentiality agreement – a ‘gag order’ – to prevent them divulging details of all of this to parents. As far as we are aware this is not standard practice. We understand that members of staff have since left the setting, and that their departure was a form of protest. A further rumour is that the removal of Juliette is part of a coup intended to place one person in sole charge of both settings. And finally, rumour has it that this is all with the intention of radically altering the approach and ethos of the nursery in order to achieve an improved Ofsted rating. We are all desperately trying to sort fact from fiction! Do you see how damaging this embargo on communication has been? We all love Juliette, and we are very concerned for her and what appears to be her mistreatment at the hands of the committee. That could be an entirely inaccurate assessment of the situation, and what we would all really appreciate is an opportunity to hear what actually went on so that we can make our minds up for ourselves. We would also very much like to know what the committee intends for the future of the playgroup. We would like to apologise for the personal remarks regarding Liz and her time at York College made in one person’s comment. This petition was never intended to be personal or aimed at anyone, and we regret any upset this has caused to Liz.

Haxby Playgroups' committee are aware that this petition has been launched regarding the departure of Juliette Pegram. The information contained within this petition is not accurate and we do not agree with the content. As one example, Juliette Pegram resigned from her post at Haxby Playgroups, she was not dismissed. We would also restate that as an employer we obviously cannot discuss confidential information surrounding the circumstances of an employee’s decision to resign and we have taken legal advice about what we can and cannot disclose. We have responded to every parental enquiry regarding Juliette’s departure to explain this and have offered to meet individually with parents should they wish. Of course, that offer remains open. We would urge current parents of the playgroup to consider the above before signing or commenting on such a petition. Unfortunately, the only result of such a petition being launched is negative publicity for the playgroups as a whole which ultimately could threaten their future, and with that the livelihoods of our fantastic team of care staff. We are also very concerned to see personal comments being posted about an individual member of staff on here and on social media. Posting these kinds of comments on public social media sites is extremely damaging to playgroup, is very hurtful to those involved and is inappropriate and contrary to our dignity and respect policy. To avoid any doubt, the committee wishes to make clear that it has carried out all relevant staff compliance checks and fully supports every member of the team.
