The Celery Fields are a gift of Nature that deserves to be protected and nurtured. We Sarasota County citizens own 33 acres of public land next to this magnificent park.
Unfortunately, our elected officials are still seriously considering selling two of these public parcels for industrial use. Meanwhile, they keep approving plans for new gated communities that will span thousands of acres of rural East Sarasota from University Parkway down to 681 near Venice.
This is our one opportunity to shield our pristine birding and recreational area from polluting industrialization. In concert with 50 nearby homeowners associations, Fresh Start has been working for nine months on community-friendly ideas for our public lands.
If these adjacent public lands were united in theme and vision with the Celery Fields, this Gateway to East Sarasota County would be redefined for future generations
Sarasota County: We urge you to acknowledge this rare opportunity for public good. Do NOT sell our public lands to private developers. Protect and enhance the Celery Fields Area for all the people of Sarasota.

One thousand of you have joined this fight, yet the Sarasota County commissioners refuse to listen. Their obsession with selling our land to private developers is a slap in the face to every person who values this park. We are just getting started.

The county commissioners are betting we will lose steam before we hit this goal. We need to force them to look at a massive number today so get this circulating in every group you know.

The county commissioners are betting we will lose interest before we hit one hundred signatures. Prove them wrong and force them to look at this list of people who refuse to let them pave over our public land.

Please do not sell 33 acres of public park adjacent to the Celery Fields. Sarasota County needs the natural resources it still has, ESPECIALLY treasures such as the Celery Fields and surrounding undeveloped land. Please protect this vital part of our county.
Please come and do the right thing this time! Don’t do the thing that makes the most money - just ONCE. The vast majority of residents and voters support preserving this area as the natural resource it’s become. Please don’t allow heavy industry to ruin it.
I visited the Celery Fields, and the lovely hiking trails and bird sanctuary in Sarasota for 1st time last May. What a terrific resource, being enjoyed by hikers and families. Please, do not destroy this by hemming it in with noxious industrial uses.
We moved to Sarasota for the beauty of the area and the celery fields are amazing - putting in an industrial site will ruin the quality of life I came to enjoy and would sooner leave the area than see such a blight - SAY NO! to this type of development
It is time for the County Commission to remove the blinders from their eyes and see what an asset to the community this area has become. Please recognize and embrace it as a new opportunity - not a place for incompatible industrial development.
We must save
Stop the ruination of Sarasota!! It is no longer the idyllic artsy place it has always been.

We need green spaces too within the Sarasota area! Otherwise we’ll be like any town in any state. Let’s keep room for egrets and herons and spoonbills and hawks, kites and osprey, as well as deer, bobcats, panthers & gators!! Keep Florida Florida!
