Save Our Canopy
We demand that the board of AIPCA hold off voting on the creation of any maintenance yard until ALL possibilities are presented to residents including anything in cooperation with Omni or any possibilities off-property. We refuse to allow our parks to be destroyed and replaced with a huge building, parking lot, and all that goes with a maintenance yard.
We all moved here because of the natural forest and have kept it as a sanctuary for more than 50 years. Why destroy it when there are many other sites that have already had their trees removed? When we save our parks, we save our property values and quality of life.
The AIPCA has a binding, foundational obligation to remain a "community in harmony with nature." Replacing protective maritime canopy, parks, and a bird sanctuary with industrial staging yards completely violates that promise.

I love the tree canopy- maritime forest - which made the Amelia Island Plantation a very special place to live. I would love to see that continue as it had for the past 50 years. I have loved this community since I started coming here in 1977 and hope that we can continue to take care of the wonderful natural resources that we have now and not see it destroyed. Our plants and animals depend on it.
The location proposed at Beachwood Dr presents a huge traffic and danger to pedestrians. There must be a better location for this facility. I’m sure we need improved maintenance facility location but it needs more study.
We looked for 4 years for a retirement place. When we came here I told my husband I could live here because there were trees.
The natural beauty of this community is why most of us live here. What the community association wants to do by cutting trees to build a maintenance yard is totally opposite of what I want.
We bought in a community zoned residential, not commercial. A maintenance facility next to homes will hurt property values. The Board is charged with protecting property values. If AIPCA resists OMNI’s requests for changes of use (zoning)of their property, AIPCA board should not be hypocritical and change the use of property owned by all owners (the entire membership) which is designated common property, green space, a sanctuary, a natural forest. This would set a dangerous precedent.
The trees are precious, not some building that we don't need.
This is a huge project. It impacts many people. It destroys trees. The board must fully inform the community first, and the project is of such huge magnitude that I believe a community-wide vote is both legally and ethically required.

I totally agree with the residents who live in the neighborhood. They did not bargain for a maintenance shed being built in their residential neighborhood. Not to mention the destruction of the maritime forest, and animal habitats.
