Seeing 250 names on this petition hit me hard because Johnny loved that building so much. It is incredible to see how many people want to honor his heart and his time spent mentoring the kids at the center.

Seeing this level of support for Johnny reminds me of the countless afternoons he spent mentoring kids right there in that gym. This momentum shows that our city truly remembers the heart he poured into Wells Park.

RIP champ. Wells Park wont be the same without his name on it. He did so much for the neighborhood kids back in the day.
Johnny Tapia is a burque legend. Changing the center name is the least we can do to honor him.
so sad he passed away so young. he really cared about the youth here let his legacy live on at the center please.
Johnny was the real deal for this city. Always stopped to talk to people even when he was a huge star. He belongs on that building.
My kids grew up watching him fight on tv. He represents the heart of albuquerque better than anybody else. DO IT.

Me and my husband move to burque we where a fan of Johnny Tapia before we came up we would love to go the meeting it sad how he died Rip 5 time champship
