The housing crisis in Isla Vista, the UC Santa Barbara college town, is extremely problematic. Due to the housing shortage for college students, homeowners/rental companies feel as if they can raise the rental prices yearly since they know that UCSB students will pay more money due to their fear of not securing housing. Stricter rent control laws could lead to a more affordable cost of living for UCSB students overall.

Living in IV is a total nightmare. Rent goes up every single year even though the buildings are falling apart. It is predatory and everyone knows it.
